The Government’s online gateway for applications to the latest round of grants under the self-employment income support scheme (SEISS) is now open from the HMRC website.
HMRC should have informed self-employed individuals of their exact application date via text, email or letter, which varies from 22 April to the end of the month.
Detailed by Chancellor Rishi Sunak in the Spring Budget, this fourth instalment of the SEISS grant will cover payments for February, March and April.
Eligible workers can claim 80% of their average monthly profits capped at £7,500 in total.
There will also be a fifth SEISS payment, which will open from late July and cover the period from May to July.
This will offer eligible individuals the same 80% grant – but only if their turnover has fallen by 30% or more, diverging from previous SEISS instalments.
Explaining the change, Sunak said people whose turnover has not fallen significantly “have less need of taxpayer support and will receive a 30% grant”.
To make a claim, applicants must have their Government Gateway user ID and password, national insurance number and bank details. A tax agent or adviser cannot make the claim for their client.
